Fuses provide protection for electrical circuits, typically in the form of a small glass or ceramic tube filled with a metal wire or filament that melts if an overload current reaches a set point. When this happens the circuit between two points in the current path is interrupted, breaking the circuit and preventing any further current flow.
3JS fuses are specially designed to provide additional protection for electrical circuits from overcurrent. They use three parallel connected fuses to provide a wider range of current sensing and protection than a single fuse. A 3JS fuse is made up of three separate parts, two of them being small thin sheets of steel which form part of the fuse coil, and the third being the ignition wire, which is responsible for initiating the melting process when necessary. When the current flowing through the 3JS fuse reaches a predetermined amount the ignition wire will heat up and melt forming two connections between the two sides of the coil, interrupting the current flow and thereby stopping further damage to the circuit.
The application fields of 3JS fuses are mainly in residential, commercial and industrial settings where protection from overcurrent faults is a priority. They are most commonly used in circuits with a current beyond the capacity of a single fuse, but at a level low enough to still require protection. This type of fuse is especially suitable for circuits where a single fuse may be inadequate for providing adequate protection, due to the increased sensing range of the 3JS fuse which lets it sense a wider range of currents.
The working principles of 3JS fuses are very simple. When a predetermined current level is passed through the fuse coil, the ignition wire is heated up until it melts, thereby forming two connections between the two sides of the coil and thus interrupting the current. This is called the "opening time" of the fuse and is the amount of time it takes for the coil to melt and open the circuit. Once this opening time has been reached, no more current will flow through the circuit and the fuse will be considered "blown".
In conclusion, 3JS fuses are a reliable and effective type of fuse, especially for protecting higher current circuits. They are easy to install and provide a safe and efficient protection from overcurrent faults.
