402F400XXCLT Application Field and Working Principle

The 402F400XXCLT crystal is a high-frequency crystal device used to insure accuracy and precision in electronic circuits, primarily in timing processes. It is a small, but spectacularly accurate and reliable, mechanical resonator, operating in the range of 16 to 40 MHz, depending on the oscillator circuit and design. It is made up of a small piece of quartz cut at specific angles, which vibrates at a precise frequency when voltage is applied or removed.

Working Principle

The 402F400XXCLT crystal is a miniature quartz-based oscillator device, with a hermetically sealed, temperature-controlled quartz crystal in a metal housing. When voltage of the proper specific frequency is applied to the crystal, it vibrates at the aspect ratio of its cut angles, typically 32.768kHz to 40MHz. This means that the crystal precisely controls or regulates electrical power into a frequency-specific signal, acting as a frequency controller. This process is then used to produce accurate and reliable timing pulses.

Allowable frequency range (from 16KHz to 40 MHz) and accuracy are determined by the aspect ratio of the quartz crystal. Quartz, when cut in a specific angle and direction, produces a piezoelectric effect, meaning that it can produce a charge in response to an applied voltage. This is due to the crystal’s molecules possessing proper dielectric properties that allow them to react to voltage.

The frequency at which the quartz vibrates from the applied voltage is determined by the cross section’s size. When a signal is sent to the quartz crystal, it vibrates at the same frequency that was sent. When it is connected to a circuit, the crystal the produces an oscillation signal in the geometry of the receiving circuit, allowing it to intelligently monitor the frequency.
