When the armature is locked into the drum’s arc, a pin on the armature make contact with an associated contact on the switch. As the drum rotates, the magnetic force increases and the armature is released from the drum into the next contact of the switch. As the armature moves from one contact to the next one, it carries the associated current to the new contact, thus providing a continuous current transfer when activated.
In order to protect the 412-12 rotary switch from extreme conditions, such as high temperature, moisture or dust, it is housed in a sturdy case which allows for quick and easy installation. The case is made of a high-grade plastic material, which is resistant to most corrosive chemicals, oil, and water. The case is also vented, which helps prevent the build-up of heat and allows the switch to be cooled faster.
