The 416F50035ATT is an AT-Cut Quartz Crystal oscillator packaged in a miniaturized 4-pin ceramic surface-mount package.It operates over a temperature range of -40C to +85C.At the heart of the 416 oscillator is a resonating element, which is a quartz crystal cut along a particular plane (or “AT cut") to determine its frequency performance.When the 416 is properly addressed and the oscillator is switched on, the crystal will start oscillation at its chosen frequency.The 416 Crystal can be used in a range of electronic devices, including oscillators, frequency dividers, filters, envelope detectors, semi-rigid cables, and more.

416F50035ATT Working Principle

The 416F50035ATT utilizes the behavior of a quartz crystal to generate specific frequency (or electrical) signals.A quartz crystal is formed from a single crystalline material and dielectric layers.When an electric field is applied to the quartz crystal, a “shunt capacitance” is created between the plates. This capacitance significantly increases the electrical resistance. As the external electrical field is increased, the competition between the shunt capacitance and the mechanical restoring force causes the crystal to vibrate at the frequency which corresponds to the electrical field.The oscillation frequency of the 416 oscillator is determined by the mechanical properties of the quartz crystal and its air gaps.

The 416F50035ATT oscillator has a fundamental frequency of 3.2MHz and is essentially a parallel resonant circuit. The external components of the oscillator are essentially a series connected inductor and capacitor. This LC circuit is in parallel with the quartz crystal, and its electrical characteristics determine the overall behavior of the oscillator.The oscillator works by amplifying the resonance frequency of the quartz crystal. When it is operated at the resonant frequency of the quartz crystal, an oscilloscope trace will show an almost perfect sine wave.
