Working Principle

Fixed Inductors work similarly to transformers, by producing an electromagnetic field when a current passes through the coil. The change in magnetic field produces an electromotive force, or voltage, across the coil. This voltage is proportional to both the rate of change of the magnetic field and the total amount of current flowing through the inductor. The inductance of the part is specified in Henries (H), which is the standard unit of measure for electricity inductors. This means that the inductor can effectively store energy in the form of a magnetic field.

When an alternating current is allowed to pass through the coil, the magnetic field causes a voltage to be developed in opposition to the original source. This voltage is known as inductive reactance, and it is generally used in filters, where it can allow the blocking of certain frequencies and the passing of others.
