It is comprised of two elements – a bimetal element that senses the temperature of the contacts, and a magnet which senses the current flowing in the circuit. Whenever the magnet senses a fault current, it releases the spring-loaded arms, thus, tripping the breaker. These components are housed in a sturdy metal casing, lined with insulating material to protect it from moisture and dust.
