.Programmable Oscillators Programmable oscillators are significant tools when it comes to the impact they bear on the overall performance and longevity of complex systems. This article focuses on the 500DDBA-ACH application fields and working principles.The 500DDBA-ACH application field covers frequency range from 5MHz to 500MHz. It is suitable for a wide variety of applications, like clock and timing, instrumentation, fiber networks, military and satellite communication and of course various consumer products. In these applications, the 500DDBA-ACH programmable oscillator can be used as a precision timing source, signal generator, signal conditioning and a power amplifier.The working principle of the 500DDBA-ACH programmable oscillator is relatively simple – its configuration can be adjusted by altering external frequency-determining components like crystal or inductors. It is highly reliable due to its low power consumption, low jitter, high frequency accuracy and its internal frequency multiplier options. The output impedance of the 500DDBA-ACH oscillator is 50Ohm, allowing it to drive 50Ohm impedance terminated lines.The unique feature of 500DDBA-ACH programmable oscillator is its two-stage voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO) design. This design allows the user to program the frequency through an external crystal or resistor controlling a set of high linearity varactors. This enables good voltage-to-frequency conversion ratios for a wider frequency range, up to 500MHz.The 500DDBA-ACH oscillator has also good shock and vibration performance compared to other traditional oscillators. This is due to its vacuum package and two-stage construction where one stage is dedicated to control the oscillator frequency and the second is tuned to the applied oscillator frequency. It also provides excellent immunity to noise interference and temperature variation.Furthermore, the 500DDBA-ACH oscillator is pin compatible to traditional SC-cut and IT-cut crystals, providing the user with an easy and fast transition. The oscillator also provides an extended or stopped operation after power down, should the application require it.In addition, the 500DDBA-ACH programmable oscillator can also support various control modes, such as:-Pullability: the user can adjust the frequency span of the oscillator.-Holdover: the oscillator can maintain its frequency stability in the case of power loss, crystal drift or amplitude variation.-Initial frequency: the initial frequency of the oscillator can be set during the installation process.-Lock Enable: the oscillator can remain in its loop condition, even when under low duty cycle operation.The 500DDBA-ACH programmable oscillator also supports a wide variety of modulation types i.e., frequency modulation (FM), pulse width modulation (PWM), pulse frequency modulation (PFM) and even simple mode logic (SML). All these signals can be generated at the oscillator output based on the user’s requirement.Overall, the 500DDBA-ACH programmable oscillator is a valuable tool when it comes to its impact on the overall performance and longevity of complex systems.
