Fixed Inductors

Fixed inductors are passive components commonly found in many electrical and electronic circuits. Often referred to as an inductor or simply a length of wire, they play an important role in electric circuits, providing the pathways for current flow and/or creating a magnetic field. The most commonly used type of fixed inductor is the 555-565J. This article looks at the application field and working principle of the 555-565J.

Application Field

The 555-565J fixed inductor is wide deployed in the telecommunication, digital service, and image processing fields, whereby it is used as a component in power-supply circuits for switching on/off of electronic circuits, as an impedance element for defining the current path, and as a means of providing a magnetic field for data processing. Some of the other applications for this type of fixed inductor include motor speed control, audio frequency and radio frequency switching, signal coupling, coupling between signal lines in an electronic system, amplifiers, and voltage transformers.

Working Principle

Fixed inductors are based on the principle of Faraday\'s Law of Induction which states that changes in the current in a circuit will induce voltage in any other circuit within its influence. Such current changes can be due to a displaced conductor (such as a wire or coil of wire) or due to a varying magnetic field. The 555-565J fixed inductor works by creating a magnetic field which induces the current to flow in the desired direction and at the desired speed, in accordance with Faraday\'s Law.

The 555-565J fixed inductor is typically formed using a compact inductor assembly consisting of a length of wire or thin metal strips wrapped into a tight spiral. This forms a closely coupled inductor which is capable of producing a strong magnetic field when current is applied. The passage of current through the inductor wire results in a change in its magnetic flux which produces an induced voltage in the adjacent circuit. This process is known as self-induction and ensures that whenever the current is applied the voltage induced will be present in the adjacent circuit.
