RF Antennas are essential components of the wireless technologies that are contributing immensely towards building up a new era of wireless communication. The applications of the RF antennas are widespread, ranging from broadcasting, satellite, terrestrial, cellular and mobile communication systems. The increasing use of wireless networks and wireless base stations further extend the use of RF antennas. In short, RF antennas are used to radiate energy in the form of radio waves, and, in the reverse direction, to collect the radio waves coming from the outside in the form of energy. To fulfill this, RF antennas are usually paired with circuit elements that enable them to perform the desired function. The application of the RF antenna is very wide, and its working principle is very simple. Each antenna has a radiation pattern that describes how energy is emitted in a given direction. This radiation pattern is determined by the shape and size of the antenna elements. Depending on the application, the antennas can be designed with either directional or omni-directional radiation patterns. In addition, antennas often radiate differently at different frequencies, meaning that they may require tuning to achieve the desired radiation pattern. In order to achieve this tuning, antennas can be constructed with adjustable elements that can be tuned to the desired frequency. RF antennas are primarily used to introduce signals into and out of a communication system, and as such they are typically used to introduce signals into and out of a transmitter and receiver. When transmitting, antennas radiate energy into the desired direction, whereas for reception they collect energy from the environment.
