The 5600901050 (5600) circuit board indicator provides a highly visible indication for automated control systems, including information about machine status, alarms, warning indicators and countermeasures. The 5600 is a 5.5mm x 5.5mm surface mount unit which is widely used within the industrial and medical sectors. It is also popular in hobbyist and automotive applications.

Application Field & Working Principle

The 5600 is available in two versions – single and dual colour. Both offer the same outstanding performance and reliability to the user. The single colour version utilises one LED and provides a single colour on/off signal. The dual colour version, utilises two LEDs and provides simultaneous two colour signal – red & green, blue/green/amber, white/amber or red/blue/amber. All versions of the 5600 are capable of being controlled by a wide range of source control signals (e.g. TTL, RS232, RS485). It has a wide operating voltage range of 3.3V to 30V.

The basic circuit of the 5600 consists of a microprocessor, power enable circuitry and a controller circuit. The microprocessor is used to monitor and decode the control signal input signals. It processes the information and controls the power enable circuitry to enable or disable the circuit. The controller circuit is responsible for controlling the LEDs by providing current to the LED Anode and allowing for regulation of voltage at the Junction.

The 5600 LED is capable of providing a wide range of backlighting and pulse width modulation (PWM) to control brightness levels. By controlling the voltage and pulse width, the intensity of the LED can be controlled without the need for additional components. This makes the 5600 particularly suitable for applications where low power consumption is essential.

Advantages and Disadvantages

The 5600 offers a number of advantages over traditional LED applications, such as enhanced visibility, increased control flexibility, and low power consumption. The flexible current control allows the LED to be driven with different currents and produces a uniform brightness across the LED. In contrast, traditional LED applications require special power sources to produce a uniform brightness across the LED, as well as additional components and wiring.

The greatest disadvantage of the 5600 is its higher cost. As a surface mount device, it requires additional assembly and soldering. Additionally, the costs of multiple colour LEDs can become costly in applications where colour coding is important. Despite these disadvantages, the 5600 continues to provide a reliable and cost-effective solution for many applications.
