The 579L130CAT is based on a CMOS voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) topology which is used to make the VCO oscillate at a frequency that is proportional to the applied voltage. This VCO is controlled by an external voltage through a metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) transistor that is operated in its saturation region.

The 579L130CAT is powered by a voltage supply (Vdd) connected to its drain, and a feedback capacitor is connected between the gate and drain terminal of the MOS transistor.
