The 7203L12JG has a read operation and write operation. The read operation retrieves data from the device’s SRAM array while the write operation stores data into the SRAM array. Data is stored at the address stored on the ‘write pointer’ in the SRAM array. The ‘read pointer’ points to the next available address in the device’s FIFO buffer.
During a write operation, the device’s logic will reset the ‘write pointer’ to the start of the SRAM array and store the new data while incrementing the ‘write pointer’. If the data is over writing existing values in the array, the device will increment the ‘write pointer’ and continue writing the data. During a read operation, the device’s logic will reset the ‘read pointer’ to the start of the SRAM array, store the data and increment the ‘read pointer’.
The 7203L12JG device also supports various operating modes. The single port mode and double port mode allow for reading and writing from the same SRAM array and the four port mode allows for independent reading and writing from 2 separate SRAM arrays. The seven mode lines allow for easy adjustment of the device for a variety of applications.
