Coaxial Connectors (RF)

Coaxial connectors, also commonly referred to as RF connectors, are devices primarily used to connect and secure coaxial cables. Grounding between two connected cables is achieved through the use of a metal shell or thread. Coaxial connectors are widely used in a variety of application fields such as radio frequency (RF) transmission, computer networks, broadcast, microwave communication systems and aerospace systems.

73011 Application Field and Working Principle

The 73011 coaxial connector series are designed for heavy-duty military, avionics and other specialty applications. The construction of these connectors is extremely robust and features a protective electroless nickel plating. The 73011 support frequencies from DC – 12.4GHz, have 10A current carrying capacity and are conformal coated for enhanced performance in extreme temperature environments.

The 73011 series is designed to have slimmer profiles than most conventional military connectors which allow it to be used in tight spaces. The series is also available with IP-68 sealing, M-series compatibility and a variety of gender and orientation configurations.

The 73011 series features a locking action due to its bayonet coupling mechanism. The mechanism consists of three parts; a bayonet, an inner ring and an O-ring which all work together to assure secure connections in the most hostile of environments. The bayonet bobbin is slotted so that a locking bar can be inserted into the groove and held by the small retaining screws that are placed at either end of the connector.

The 73011 also features a three-point positive latching design which securely locks the connector body. Once engaged, the three-point latching system prevents the connector from disengaging under heavy vibration and shock conditions. The self-cleaning contacts are also designed to ensure long-term reliable connection even when the connector is in environments with a high level of particulate contamination.
