The 74F540SJ is a high-speed octal noninverting buffer/line driver. It is a standard VTTL device, with bidirectional driving capability and extremely high noise immunity. It functions as a very high speed switch when connected to standard (5V) TTL inputs, and it also can be used as a level translator when connected to higher-level logic (in order to properly accommodate the input and output levels). Combined with the Octal non-inverting Schmitt buffer, it is especially useful for point-to-point connections that require cascading of stages of logic. The 74F540SJ is designed to be pin-for-pin compatible with the original 74 series F and LS series.

Working Principle
