The 74HC166D is an 8-bit serial-in, serial or parallel-out shift register incorporated into high-speed CMOS logic. It consists of an 8 bit shift register and an 8 bit output register with direct inputs to each register.The data is shifted along the chain of flip-flops triggered by a single clock pulse.The Data is entered serially through the Serial Data Input. When the Load input is activated, the data in the shift register will be loaded into the output register. This allows the data to be read in parallel. Shift register has data flow in one direction only and new data is loaded into the register without disturbing existing data.
