It uses 2-level drain-source drive capability and connects multiple logic gates together for data exchange. Working Principle
The 74HC2G17GW,125 converts low current logic signals (5 mA MAX) into high current logic signals. All inputs are specified to of TTL voltage level (0V to 5V). The input is actively pulled-up to VCC through a resistance network. If a connected input is in the low state, the input will remain in this low state until the voltage reaches the threshold voltage of the particular logic family. Therefore the output of the buffer remains low.
When the voltage at the input reaches the threshold voltage (different logic families have different threshold voltages), the output is set high and the current flows from the resistance network through the output and sinks it to the ground. Thus, the 74HC2G17GW,125 converts the low logic signal into a high logic signal.
In addition, the 74HC2G17GW,125 includes protection circuitry that prevents the output from exceeding the VCC level. This protection feature is necessary for bidirectional buffers in a multiple gate system. As a result, the input voltage stays constant when the output is driven either high or low.
