74HC595DB,118 application field and working principle

The 74HC595 is an 8-bit shift register, containing a serial-in, serial or parallel-out shift register with output latches. It is a member of the 74XX family, and shares the same pinout as other members of the 74XX family for easy substitutions. It can be used to send a large number of data bits using a small number of pins. 74HC595s are used in a wide variety of applications ranging from digital logic to human interfaces, because they provide a cheap and easy way to control and lock patterns into large number of outputs.

This shift register has a maximum propagation delay of 50ns, a minimum power supply of 3.0V and a maximum supply current of 10mA.
