The 74VHC244FT is a high speed Quad Bidirectional Buffer with both signal and enable systems. It provides a simple solution for bus interfacing, signal buffering and signal/bus conversion between dissimilar logic families, or to prevent signal distortion caused by mismatch loads. With an operating voltage up to 5.5V and an input signal rise/fall time of 0.1uS, the 74VHC244FT enhances the speed of data flow.

The 74VHC244FT is a practical tool for expanding the address and data busses in microprocessor systems, as well as general buffering for I/O systems. It is useful in applications requiring different logic families and signal conversion between different logic families, allowing high data transfer rates on board. This product also works well in bus arbitration and bus inversion.
Working Principle
The 74VHC244FT is a TTL compatible Quad Buffer, having four bidirectional I/O ports. The interface between the two data directions is controlled by the enable pin (OE or E) which needs to be set up before data can be transferred. Depending on the Logic of the enable pin, the performance of the data transfer will be as input (enable is low) or output (enable is high) mode.All four I/O ports can be operated together or divided into two 3-state I/O ports (A, B and C, D). This allows more flexibility from the user. Additionally, each I/O port acts as an open drain instead of an output buffer, therefore it will only pull low in input mode.The 74VHC244FT will have their pins disabled if the power supply voltage is below 3V. Although, its input and output pins are not 5V tolerant, a pull-down resistor should be used to prevent invalid states happening to the portion of logic system.
