Terminal Strips and Turret Boards

The 856 application field and working principle are mainly focused on the use of terminal strips and turret boards, which is an integral part of many industrial process control systems. Terminal strips and turret boards are used in a variety of applications, from simple machine wiring to complex control systems. They provide a reliable and economical way to bring power to components that need to be connected and controlled in order to achieve their desired performance.

Terminal Strips

Terminal strips are commonly used in industrial control systems. They provide a convenient way to bring power to various components such as electrical motors, sensors, switches, and other types of electronic components. In most cases, the terminal strips are pre-wired to run either AC or DC power, and are equipped with easily identifiable terminal pins or terminals.

Terminal strips are often used in conjunction with ventilation fans, pressure regulators, sensibly controlled air movers, and other types of equipment. The terminals on the strips are usually numbered and labeled, in order to quickly identify the power and control connections that are necessary to run the equipment.

Working Principle of Terminal Strips

The working principle of a terminal strip is fairly simple. The strip consists of two parts, a bus bar and a terminal block. The bus bar is the longer, thicker, metal bar that runs along the length of the terminal strip. It is sometimes referred to as the “live” wire because it carries the current. The terminal block, on the other hand, is the smaller “dead” block that extends out the side of the strip and serves as the connection point for the individual components.

In operation, the power source is connected to the bus bar, and then each component is connected to the terminal block. When sufficient power is available, the components are activated and can perform their intended functions.

Turret Boards

Another type of terminal connection device is the turret board, which is a specialized type of terminal strip designed for use on military and aerospace equipment, as well as some industrial control systems.

Turret boards are comprised of a flat base, with a number of differently sized posts mounted onto the board. Each post is different size and shape and is designed to support different types of components. This results in a compact but powerful connection device.

The board is typically affixed to the equipment that it is servicing in one of two ways – either directly to its chassis or into a mounting track. It is then wired into a set of corresponding terminals on the equipment, thus creating a secure connection between the components and the board.

Working Principle of Turret Boards

The working principle of a turret board is similar to that of a terminal strip. The board consists of a negative and a positive rail, as well as the various post connections. The board is connected to the power source in the same manner as a terminal strip, and then each component is connected to a corresponding post.

When sufficient power is available, the components are activated and can perform their intended functions. The turret board also provides a secure connection, preventing any kind of accidental disconnection.
