The 8N4DV85EC-0025CDI is a general-purpose programmable timer IC from Tower Semiconductor Ltd., intended for use in a wide range of timing and clock applications. It is a low power, low-cost, 3V to 5V TTL-interface device with an integrated 16-bit count-down timer/oscillator. The 8N4DV85EC-0025CDI incorporates a variety of features which make it ideal for use in a number of timing and clock applications. These include a wide range of operating frequencies, up to 12-MHz maximum, selectable timer modes, programmable duty cycle, adjustable range between 0 to 15.6 ms at 4-MHz operating frequency, selectable output polarity, and selectable clock source. In addition, the 8N4DV85EC-0025CDI eliminates the need for external crystal oscillators and timers, and boasts a low power consumption of just 10 μA at 1 MHz. The 8N4DV85EC-0025CDI is primarily designed for use in programmable timers and oscillators, such as those used in automotive, medical, industrial and consumer applications. With its tiny 0.65mm x 0.65mm QFN surface-mount package and its wide range of features, it is perfect for applications with severe size, cost, and power constraints where enhanced features and low power are required. The 8N4DV85EC-0025CDI works by using a clock signal input to count down a specified number in its 16-bit register, and then output a pulse. This is repeated as long as the timer is running. The 8N4DV85EC-0025CDI also features an adjustable internal Duty Cycle Range, which allows for versatile pulse widths. The clock signal can be an internal or external oscillator, with selectable frequencies of 1 MHz and 12 MHz for external clocks. For television, video and audio applications, the 8N4DV85EC-0025CDI offers the option of a selectable clock source of 48, 50, or 75 kHz, which can be used for clocking video sample rate converters and audio sample rate converters. The 8N4DV85EC-0025CDI also features a universal resettable input, giving the user the ability to synchronize multiple timers with a common reset signal. Its silicon display features a 32ms power-up hold function and watch-dog timer to ensure proper system operation. Upon power-up, 8N4DV85EC-0025CDI can be reset and immediately start running, thus eliminating the need for external reset. This can also be used to reset multiple timers connected with a common reset signal. The user can program this watchdog timer with a very long time period to ensure that the system runs reliably in the long term.The 8N4DV85EC-0025CDI is a highly versatile programmable timer IC designed for a broad range of timing and clock applications.
