They are much smaller than both array and edge type connectors and offer improved electrical performance. The main features of mezzanine connectors include easy wiring of two circuit boards that are parallel to each other and are stacked on top of another. They also offer improved signal integrity and enable high levels of thermal dissipation. These features make these connectors suitable for applications such as routers, switches, consumer electronics, and automotive electronics. The main disadvantage of mezzanine connectors is that their small size limits their ability to carry large amounts of current.
