Film capacitors (FILCAPs) are a type of energy storage device, a type of capacitor, composed of thin layers of non-metallic material (polyester film, polypropylene film, and polyphenylene sulphide film).  They are designed to operate over a wide temperature range and provide excellent performance under high current and voltage stress. In comparison to other capacitor types, FILCAPs are small in size but have a very low Electric-field strength, enabling them to store a larger amount of energy and in much shorter periods of time.

The 947D391K102BEMSN Film capacitor is a non-polar structure which is formed by two layers of polypropylene-film and two layers of polyethylene-film internal metal electrodes and an external metal electrode. It is equipped with a high-frequency impedance, low ESR at high temperature, and stable capacitance values over the temperature range.The 947D391K102BEMSN Film capacitor works on the principle of an electric double-layer effect. When a voltage is applied, electric charges are stored in the electric double-layer as a product of the interface between the two electrodes, generating capacitance. Depending on the applied voltage, the capacitance of the electric double-layer can increase or decrease. This effect is known as electrochemical capacitance and causes a small electric current to flow into the system and then is discharged. This small current allows the device to maintain a stable capacitance over its range of temperature.
