Rectangular connectors (Fig. 1) – headers and male pins – are used for various types of communication and data transfer. These include automotive and home networks, as well as CCTV systems, medical technology, robotics, and industrial automation systems.

Headers (Fig. 2) and male pins are typically constructed from two main elements: the connector housing and the posts. The connector housing is a rectangular molded plastic box which contains the individual pins and sockets. The posts are the pins and sockets which fit into the connector housing. The pins are pushed into one side of the housing and the sockets are pushed into the opposite side. This allows for direct wiring of the pins and sockets.
