Gas Sensors

A gas sensor, also known as a gas detector, is a device used for sensing the presence of gas in an environment. Gas sensors are usually used in industrial and safety applications, such as detecting the presence of combustible or toxic gases in a confined space or in gas process systems. The gas sensor detects the gas in the environment by utilizing various principles, such as electrochemical, optical, catalytic, and ultrasonic.

968-028 Application Field and Working Principle

The 968-028 is a gas detecting system usually applied in the electrical control areas and operation rooms to detect oxygen, combustible gas (methane, ethane, propane, hydrogen, etc.), toxic gas (carbon dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, sulfur dioxide, etc.), carbon monoxide, chlorine, corrosive gas and halogen compounds. It can work in wide temperature ranges, such as -40ºC to +50ºC and up to 95% relative humidity.

The 968-028 gas sensor operates on the principle of catalytic combustion. When the combustible gas (methane, ethane, propane, etc.) passes through its chamber, the microcontroller inside the system detects the changes in the signal and the gas concentration. The system utilizes a heated semiconductor element coated with catalytic material, such as platinum, palladium, or rhodium. The heated element is exposed to the gas and the catalytic material reacts with it. When the combustible gas reaches its predetermined level, the heated element responds by either changing its resistance or voltage as per its sensitivity.

The 968-028 also has the capability to detect and alert alarm conditions in hazardous environments, such as high concentrations of combustible gases, toxic gases, and carbon dioxide. The system utilizes infrared detectors to detect the presence of the combustible gases or other toxic gases, and then it will alert an alarm to notify the operator.

The 968-028 gas sensor provides reliable detection for fire hazards, gas leakages, and other hazardous conditions in the industrial workplace. Its advanced features, such as built-in visual indicators, measurement and stability analysis, automatic pre-alarm and alarm settings, and low power consumption, make it one of the most preferred detection systems for Industrial Safety applications.
