The ABM8G-12.288MHZ-B4Y-T3 crystal works at a frequency of 12.288MHz. It is made up of a short cylinder of quartz crystal which is cut in the shape of a tuning fork. The quartz crystal is placed between two metal plates and an alternating voltage, usually of a relatively low frequency, is applied to them. The crystal will then resonate and produce an electrical signal at its natural frequency of 12.288MHz.The ABM8G-12.288MHZ-B4Y-T3 crystal works on the basis of the piezoelectric effect, which is the phenomenon of electric charge when the crystal is stressed or deformed. When the crystal is subjected to strain, electric charges are generated across the crystal surfaces, due to the end points of the crystal cutting being of opposite electrical polarity. Similarly, when an alternating electrical field is applied to the crystal, mechanical strain will be produced on the crystal surface, thus making it vibrate and producing an electrical signal.Finally, the ABM8G-12.288MHZ-B4Y-T3 crystal is also tunable, meaning it can be adjusted to frequencies other than 12.288 MHz with minor changes in its manufacturing process.
