The AC164133 is a compact and high performance off-line SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply) controller. It is designed to control power evaluated boards for DC/DC and AC/DC systems. The AC164133 features a high frequency current- mode PWM controller, adjustable frequency oscillator, high voltage gate drivers, self-start loop, short circuit protection, over voltage protection, low frequency voltage mode PFC controller and over temperature protection. It is suitable for driving power MOSFETs or IGBTs.
The AC164133 is an ideal solution for low to medium power applications, such as AC/DC Adaptors, Home Appliances, Industrial Controls and Lab Equipment. It is also suitable for driving DC/DC convertors with both voltage and current control, allowing the system to be regulated at an output voltage as low as 0.8V. Additionally, the AC164133 gives the user the ability to easily communicate the system status and parameters via a digital interface.
The AC164133 is a switch mode power supply controller with a number of integrated features. The main feature of the device is its ability to control a DC/DC convertor with both voltage and current control, allowing the system to be regulated at an output voltage as low as 0.8V. Additionally the AC164133 has an in-circuit programming capability which allows it to accurately set the output voltage and current levels.
The working principle of the AC164133 is based on a current-mode PWM controller. It uses an switching frequency of up to 1MHz and has an adjustable firing angle to control the current flowing through the switching circuit. An integrated self-startup circuit helps to keep the device in synchronization with the mains AC voltage. In order to reduce the switching losses of the device, the output voltage and current are clamped by using an adjustable frequency oscillator.
The AC164133 is also equipped with a number of protection circuits, such as an over temperature protection circuit, which will automatically shut down the switching circuit in case of an over temperature situation, as well as a over-voltage and short-circuit protection circuit, which will protect the output voltage from reaching above the desired level or short circuit the output voltage respectively.
In order to use the AC164133 efficiently, the user must set up an appropriate driver circuit and ensure that the input voltage conforms to the device\'s requirements, which typically starts at 8V. Additionally, the user must select the switching frequency, the firing angle and the output current and voltage parameters. The digital interface allows the user to communicate the system status and parameters with the AC164133.
