Optoisolators, also known as optocouplers or photocouplers, are component devices that transfer electrical signals between two isolated circuits by using light. They comprise of an input and an output circuit optically coupled by either an LED emitter and a phototransistor for logic output applications, or a light emitting diode (LED) and a photodiode for analogue applications.The ACPL-772L-320E optoisolator is part of the ACPL-K-family and is used as a low power optoMOS coupled logic output for isolated applications. It combines an infrared LED and a phototransistor pair which is optically coupled to perform the high-speed, isolation barrier.The input-interfacing unit is an infrared diode which is connected in series with a resistor, and the output-interfacing section consists of NPN Phototransistor. The LED operates under constant current conditions with a waveform constrained directly by the input signal. The projection or intensity of the emitted light usually increases with the value of the input signal. The output phototransistor in the optoisolator receives the light from the input LED and responds accordingly to its light in the active or conductive state.The ACPL-772L-320E enables a high speed isolation so that minimum power is required to meet the requirements for repeated operations. The LED drives this optoisolator with an input current of 0.5mA max in the on state, making it ideal for low-power logic-level isolation solutions.The optoisolator offers fast switching from low to high and vice versa. The turn-on time of the device is 8μs max which is almost ten times faster than comparable devices. Likewise, it has a turn-off time of 20μs max.The frequency response of the device is rated for 1kHz max and for digital signal applications, the optoisolator has a propagation delay time of 10μs max. It provides an isolation voltage of 2,250VRMS for 1minute, adding to its wide range of applications. It can also withstand an operating temperature range of -40°C to 100°C.The optoisolator\'s main applications include medical systems, protection applications, communication systems, isolation of control/signal lines, and remote control systems. Since it is configured in an 8-pin DIP package, it has a separate pin for face-down mounting.The ACPL-772L-320E optoisolator is a reliable low-power, high-speed digital signal isolation for a variety of applications. It is an efficient optoMOS coupled logic output device that is cost-efficient and allows for quick isolation of input and output signals. Additionally, it is suitable for both high and low current signals and offers high peak pulse strength for both rising and falling edges.
