The AD1835A provides a selectable microphone and line input with low-noise preamplification and adjustable gain. It also includes an integrated high-performance headphone amplifier which enables the user to adjust the gain up to 20 dB. The AD1835A is equipped with and eight-channel mixer and a programmable SRC (sample rate converter). The mixer has adjustable volumes for each channel and supports mono, stereo and mono/stereo mode depending on the application. The programmable SRC can continuously convert audio data between PCM linear data and 16-bit ALaw/µLaw formats.

The AD1835A also provides jitter reduction using the integrated PLL. The integrated PLL allows for clock jitter to be suppressed and for the input and output sampling rate to be maintained. It is designed to provide up to 80 dB of clock jitter rejection which helps reduce noise and distortion in the audio signals.
