The AD5253BRUZ10 is a 256-tap, digital potentiometer devices with volatile memory from Analog Devices. It is a three-terminal device consisting of a wiper switch and two fixed resistive elements. The wiper terminal is connected to one end of resistor, while the other end is connected to one of the other terminals. The other terminal is called the common terminal. The AD5253BRUZ10, along with its sister parts AD5253BRUZ, is capable of digitally setting the resistance between the wiper and both terminals and offers two modes, namely, write-through and volatile.Customers use the AD5253BRUZ10 for various applications, including setting gainsdivider ratios in audio, parameter setting in consumer devices, controlling voltage and current supplies in automotive, medical, and industrial applications, and controlling motor speed in industrial motor drives.The AD5253BRUZ10 has a 10K-ohm wiper resistance and is controlled by the I2C protocol. It operates from a single 3.3V supply and can have a temperature range of –40°C to +125°C. It also features a power on reset circuit and I2C acknowledge that indicates the completion of the register write cycle. The AD5253BRUZ10 offers a rheostat mode, and its storage rate is 98MHz max.The working principle of the AD5253BRUZ10 can be explained as follows. Its two terminals A and B are connected to two fixed resistive elements and with a wiper connected in between the two. A digital input is applied to the device whether from an external source or from the internal logic of the device. This signal is converted into a voltage, which is applied to the wiper control signal input. This voltage is then amplified, and the signal is applied to the wiper. The wiper then moves up and down toward terminal A and B, respectively, proportionately to the input voltage, thus developing the desired resistance between the wiper and the two terminals.
