The AD7243AR is a Data Acquisition - Digital to Analog Converters (DAC) device that is used for converting a digital input signal to an analog output. The AD7243AR is a low power serial-input, 10-bit voltage output DAC that can be operated from either a single 5V or single 3V rail. Working Principle
The AD7243AR converts 10-bit parallel input data into an analog output voltage. The DAC is organized into several functional blocks, including the serial interface for communication, the input buffer for data storage, the switch array for digital-to-analog conversion and the output filter for slicing off noise signals. The DAC includes several low-power shutdown and sleep modes, making it suitable for high-performance, battery-operated applications. The AD7243AR utilizes an integrated clock/multiplier/prescaler to divide the frequency of the incoming clock signal to generate the necessary timing signals.
The output voltage is proportional to the data written to the DAC, via the DAC data register. This register is loaded with the data to be converted and then the MSB (Most Significant Bit) of the DAC is latched. Depending on the polarity of the voltage, the datasheet specifies the output settling time. The settling time for positive polarity is lower than for negative polarity. After the DAC has output its level, it is clocked to move on to the next level. The DAC then charges or discharges its output capacitor to the new level.
The AD7243AR operates across a wide range of temperatures, and its 10-bit resolution ensures excellent precision. To ensure proper operation and optimal accuracy, the device should be connected to a low-noise, regulated power supply. Additionally, since the output of the DAC is not rail-to-rail, external voltage clamping may be needed for proper operation.
