Digital to Analog Converters (DAC) are used in data acquisition applications to convert digital values into an analog electrical signal. The most common form of a Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) is a voltage output type. This type of DAC converts a digital code into an analog voltage output. Analog Devices offers a number of varied and feature rich Digital to Analog Converters (DACs), one of which is the AD7528LR.The AD7528LR is a 10-bit low power voltage-output type DAC with rail to rail output swing. This Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) is available as a small outline (SOIC-14) package and comes with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. Its advanced CMOS process offers guaranteed operation from full rail to rail span of the output.The AD7528LR boasts several additional features such as a power on reset circuit for both analog and digital architectures and an external current source for the reference buffer which reduces power consumption.The AD7528LR is simple to use, as long as the user is familiar with some basic concepts related to analog and digital signals. As with any DAC, the user must select the bits, or resolution, with which the Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) will operate. The AD7528LR offers 10-bit resolution with a guaranteed conversion rate of better than 15-bit resolution at full speed (8 MSPS).When using a Digital to Analog Converter, it is important to ensure that the reference voltage is properly set. In this case, the AD7528LR has an external reference voltage which can range from 0.8V to 3.3V. Additionally, the AD7528LR has a monotonic feature which ensures that the output is steadily increasing with each step.Furthermore, the output of the AD7528LR is customizable, which allows users to adjust the output in several ways. One of these is the gain adjustment pin which adjusts the gain of the output voltage for better performance of the DAC.
