RF Demodulators have been at the forefront of modern communication, from cellular phones to satellite television and from 2G networks to 5G networks. The AD8333ACPZ-REEL is a radio frequency (RF) demodulator specifically designed for use in high-speed data applications such as Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS), Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), and Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB). It performs coherent demodulation of signals up to 6 MHz in bandwidth and is capable of operating from -40 to +85°C. This application note provides an introduction to the features and applications of the AD8333ACPZ-REEL.The AD8333ACPZ-REEL is a three-stage RF demodulator that combines quadrature demodulation, gain control, and filtering into a single integrated circuit. Designed for use in communication systems where the signal bandwidth is relatively narrow but the channel noise is high, it provides superior performance at a high-speed and noise relative to conventional analog demodulators. The device is suitable for use in data links with data rates up to 6 MHz, and has a signal-to-noise ratio up to 40 dB.The AD8333ACPZ-REEL consists of an input section, a gain control section, and an output section. The input section consists of a low-noise amplifier, limiter, and quadrature demodulator. These components are optimized for speed and linearity, and help to reduce interference by two to three orders of magnitude compared to conventional analog demodulators. In addition, the gain control section provides adjustable gain control gain, which allows the system to adjust the signal strength in order to maintain a constant demodulation performance. Finally, the output section consists of a low-pass filter and a Post Detect Low-Pass Filter (LPF) which reduces the noise in the post-demodulated data.The AD8333ACPZ-REEL is designed to be used in a wide range of communication applications, including cellular phones, satellite television, and 2G/3G/4G/5G networks. In these applications, it provides superior performance at high data rates with minimal noise and interference. Additionally, the device is also suitable for use in other applications such as Doppler radar systems, direct broadcast satellite systems, and digital video applications.In Doppler radar systems, the device is used to coherently demodulate high speed pulse-Doppler signals. The AD8333ACPZ-REEL demodulates the pulses, removing the Doppler phase information and providing reliable detection of targets. In direct broadcast satellite systems, the device is used to demodulate the spread spectrum communication signals which are broadcast from the satellite. In this application, the device is capable of providing reliable signal reception with minimal interference and cross talk.Finally, in digital video applications the AD8333ACPZ-REEL is used to demodulate high-speed data signals such as those used in Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB). In this application, the device is capable of providing good data reception in the presence of background noise and interference.The AD8333ACPZ-REEL is an ideal choice for many high-speed data applications.
