When discussing the application field and working principle of ADAPT/SMBM/SMAF, one must understand the basics of coaxial connectors for radio frequency (RF) transmission. Coaxial connectors are designed to achieve low reflections by creating a close coupling between two connectors. Coaxial connectors, also known as RF connectors, are used as the interface between the instrument and the cabling system in most communication systems and networks. The main difference between ADAPT, SMBM and SMAF is the type of inside conductors they use. ADAPT uses stranded center core conductors, SMBM uses flat coaxial cables, and SMAF uses graphite-coated conductors. An analysis is conducted for the shape and sizes of the connectors and the signal loss in order to determine which connector will be most suitable for the application.

ADAPT connectors are suitable for applications which require low reflections and excellent electrical properties, such as in broadcast and television transmission. The stranded center core conductor of the ADAPT connector provides high electrical efficiency and low reflections at high frequencies, making it the ideal solution for these applications. In addition, the ADAPT connector’s design makes it suitable for both continuous and intermittent transmission requirements.

Compared to ADAPT connectors, SMBM (Multi-Band Coaxial Connector) connectors are especially designed for applications such as LAN and high-speed data transmissions, as the flat coaxial cables do not allow for the high return loss and constant impedance characteristics associated with ADAPT and SMAF connectors. This makes them suitable for applications that require low-attenuation data transmission in multiple frequency bands.

Lastly, SMAF connectors, also known as graphite-coated coaxial connectors, are designed for the highest transmission quality at very low loss. The graphite-coated conductor ensures excellent electrical properties, such as high frequency transmission efficiency and resistance to electrical discharge. These properties are important for very high-frequency transmissions, such as those required for microwave and radar systems, as well as for ultra-high frequency applications.

Overall, each of these coaxial connectors, specifically ADAPT, SMBM and SMAF, are suitable for different applications depending on the type of data transmission being used. By understanding the electrical properties associated with each type of connector, it is easy to determine which type is suitable for the application at hand.
