ADP1870-BL1-EVZ is an integrated controller comprised of a 2-phase interleaved synchronous buck controller and a primary-side controller used in synchronous buck application. It is commonly used as evaluation boards in DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply) systems. Other applications include power supplies for computers, HDDs, battery charging, and industrial systems such as ultrasound imaging, solar inverters, point-of-load, and more.This evaluation board offers up to 8A output current and provides excellent dynamic performance across the frequency range from 10kHz to 500kHz. It also features a host of protection functions, including adjustable current sharing, over-voltage, over-temperature, over-current, and more.In terms of its working principle, the ADP1870-BL1-EVZ features a two-phase interleaved synchronous buck converter that is used to step down input voltage to get the desired output voltage. The two power MOSFETs in each phase are connected in series and are driven simultaneously in a 180° phase-shifted arrangement. By doing this, the peak current in each leg has only half the ripple current, resulting in much lower power losses and higher efficiency.The primary-side controller is used to provide regulation and control of the power MOSFETs. Its key features include programs for evaluation, real-time output voltage loop-back current sampling, and more. The controller provides digital signal processing, which allows for precise current and voltage regulation. Its pulse width modulation (PWM) control scheme improves efficiency and reduces ripple.The ADP1870-BL1-EVZ also features an integrated driver module for power MOSFETs and is compliant with the PMBus protocol. The driver module offers adjustable PWM frequency and gate programming options, adaptive dead time, programmable soft start time, and a complete set of protection functions. The integrated driver module provides a robust solution with high efficiency, low-EMI, and improved performance.In short, the ADP1870-BL1-EVZ is a powerful and versatile evaluation board for DC/DC and AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS systems, which offers excellent dynamic performance, high efficiency, and a host of protection functions.
