Introduction

The ADS8698EVM-PDK is an evaluation kit for the ADS8698E ADC device. This device is used in low-power and wide dynamic range analog-to-digital conversion applications. It is designed for a flexible signal range of ±200 mV to ±3V. The board contains an octal-channel, low-power, wide input voltage range, low-noise, voltage output ADC. It is ideal for applications such as consumer electronics and medical instrumentation, where high accuracy and low power are critical. The ADS8698EVM-PDK also features a stable(±0.05%), and fast 16-bit conversion time of less than 1 µs. The ADS8698EVM-PDK is designed to evaluate the performance of the ADS8698E ADC device. The key features of the ADS8698E are as follows: - 16-bit Octal-channel, low-power - Wide voltage range of ±200mV to ±3V - Low power consumption of 450 mW - Low-noise, voltage output- Fast 16-bit conversion time of less than 1 μs - 18-channel inputs depending on operating configuration The board includes a power supply monitor, EEPROM, voltage reference, and an on-chip temperature sensor. It also has a JTAG port and DC/DC converter. The ADS8698EVM-PDK has a 2-wire serial interface to program the ADC device. The board is designed for easy setting of conversion parameters and features an on-board 8-bit DIP switch.SECTION 3 Working Principle
The ADS8698E ADC device is a low-power, wide voltage input range, low-noise device. It is designed to the necessary electrical tests for different application requirements to help determine the functional parameters and performance parameters of the device. The ADC device contains a voltage reference for providing conversion accuracy. It also contains on-chip filter for noise rejection and a decimation filter for digital signal conditioning.The ADS8698EVM-PDK is used to evaluate the performance of the device and the principle of operation can be broken down into two stages, namely; the conversion of the signal from analog to digital and the data conversion from parallel to serial format. First, the analog signal is fed to the device through the signal conditioning circuit and then it is amplified in the internal gain. Then the analog signal is conditioned through the low-pass filter contained on the device. The conditioned signal is then sampled and converted into digital form. The digital signal is then fed to the digital output through a multiplexer. The multiplexer ensures only one of the channels is active at a time enabling DMA like transfers.In the second stage, the parallel digital data is converted in to serial format by the ADS8698E device. The addressing circuitry inside the device controls the data conversion rate. A 2-wire serial interface is available for programming the ADC device. The parameters are set with the help of a switch and/or DIP switch on the board. The software provided in the ADS8698EVM-PDK enables calculation of signal to noise ratio (SNR).Conclusion
