ADUM3123CRZ-RL7 is an Isolator - Gate Driver that is used to drive unidirectional power MOSFET. This Isolator - Gate Driver is used when the system needs to isolate between low energy application and high current switch that have dissimilar ground potential, to avoid any kind of compromise that might arise due to different ground potentials.

The primary use of ADUM3123CRZ-RL7 is in the switching of DC-DC converters, as it used for driving the high side MOSFETs. The device can be used in several applications, such as telecom/networking equipment, motor control, renewable energy, industrial automation, and consumer electronics.

ADUM3123CRZ-RL7 works on the principle of voltage isolation. It is designed to provide a galvanic isolation barrier between the input and output sides. The input side is known as “input” and it consists of the gate drive circuitry, while the output side is known as “output” and it consists of the gate drive switch. The Isolator - Gate Driver allows the input side to be driven to a logic voltage either 3.3V or 5V, while isolating the logic voltage from the output MOSFETs. The MOSFETs can then be driven to higher voltage depending upon the application requirement.

The device contains an input side interface circuit, an isolation barrier and an output side gate driver circuit. The interface circuit is used to sense the logic voltage either 3.3V or 5V and convert it into a higher voltage that can be used to drive the output side MOSFETs. The isolation barrier electrically isolates the input from the output and prevents the currents from flowing across the barrier, thus eliminating the possibility of ground potential mismatch.

The output side gate driver circuit is used to drive the high side MOSFETs. The driver circuit consists of a MOSFET driver and protection circuitry, that are used to protect the driver from any damage caused due to transient voltage spikes. The output side gate driver circuit also has a slew rate control option, that can be used to adjust the speed of the turn-on switching of the MOSFETs.

ADUM3123CRZ-RL7 has a maximum peak output current of 2A and a peak output voltage of 18V. It has an operating supply voltage range of 9-18V, and a maximum operating temperature of 85°C. The device is available in a 8-Pin SOIC package and offers ESD protection of up to +8kV Contact, and +15kV Air.
