ADUM4121ARIZ Isolators are a range of devices specifically designed for use in industrial motor and power control systems. Designated as Gate Drivers, these ICs are equipped with a high voltage, low voltage differential signal conversion (HVDSC) circuit which is optimized for speed, efficiency and reliability in electric motor and generator motor control systems. In addition, the ICs are optimized for low-power operation, allowing them to be used in battery and other low power applications.The ADUM4121ARIZ Isolator is typically used in motor and power control systems to provide an isolated input to the gate driver. The HVDSC circuit converts the input signal from the motor/generator into a differential, low voltage signal which is used to drive the gate driver. This significantly improves the robustness of the system by isolating the input signal from the power control system.The HVDSC circuit is composed of three components—an input protection stage, a low voltage output stage and a high voltage (HV) output stage. The input protection stage ensures that the signals entering the HVDSC are within the correct safety range, and any overvoltage is limited. The low voltage output stage then converts the incoming input into a low voltage differential signal with an accuracy of 5%. The high voltage (HV) output stage then takes this signal and converts it to a high voltage differential signal with an accuracy of 1%.The HVDSC is designed for use in high voltage systems such as those used in motor and generator motor control, and is able to withstand transient surges up to 10kV. The HVDSC also has low drift characteristics, making it suitable for use in precision systems. Additionally, the HVDSC can be configured for efficient switching, making it ideal for high speed control systems.In addition to providing isolated inputs, the ADUM4121ARIZ Isolator also features advanced safety features such as under voltage lockout (UVL), short circuit protection (SCP), and thermal shutdown (TSD). The UVL prevents the IC from being switched on in the event of too little input, while the SCP blocks the output of the IC in the event of a short circuit. Finally, the TSD helps to protect the IC by shutting it down in the event of a temperature rise beyond an acceptable range.The ADUM4121ARIZ Isolator is typically used in motor and generator control systems to provide an insulated input to gate drivers.
