Fixed Inductors

Inductors are electrical components designed to store energy in magnetic fields. Fixed inductors consist of two primary varieties: air-core inductors and ferrite-core inductors. The AIRD-01-150K is an example of an air-core inductor. Air-core inductors are made solely of an insulated wire coil, as opposed to ferrite-core inductors which consist of a ferrite core around a wire coil. Due to their simplicity, air-core inductors are more cost effective than their ferrite-core counterparts.

Working Principle

The working principle of a fixed inductor is fairly simple. A current traveling through the coil creates a magnetic field around it. The magnetic field stores the energy from the current in the form of potential magnetic energy. This energy is then returned to the circuit when the current running through the coil decreases, resulting in an \'inductive kick-back\'. This kick-back works in opposition to the change in current flow and, a s a result, the inductor can be used for regulating voltage. This means that voltage levels never go too high or too low.

The AIRD-01-150K works on the same principle. It is made up of a copper wire coil, wound around a non-magnetic core. When the current running through the coil changes, the magnetic field surrounding the coil does too, resulting in an inductive kick-back. The power dissipated due to this kick-back is constantly monitored by internal heatsinks to ensure the inductor stays within its power rating. This kick-back is used to regulate the voltage levels in the circuit.

The AIRD-01-150K is a robust, compact inductor with a wide variety of uses. Its relatively low DC resistance make it ideal for use in a range of electronic applications and its medium power rating make it suitable for use as a power supply inductor.
