The APA105-ML-004 is a type of evaluation board classified under the category of DC/DC & AC/DC (off-line) SMPS. The board is designed for application in designing a low power DC/DC switching mode power supply. The APA105-ML-004 evaluation board is a 3W constant current AC-DC isolated converter that can operate with a wide range of input voltage from 90VAC to 265VAC. The board has a high power factor of usually more than 0.95. It has very low no-load power consumption of less than 10mW. Moreover, the board also provides very high efficiency up to 95%. The primary and secondary side of the board are electrically isolated. The switch part of the board features Toshiba’s TTB501S single oscillator, synchronous full bridge totem pole power stage with high voltage gate drive. The APA105-ML-004 is easy to configure for applications that require either power or constant current output mode.The circuit of the APA105-ML-004 is based on a synchronous full bridge converter topology with a single DC rail. A continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation is used for the APA105- ML-004 to ensure the highest efficiency. This topology will also achieve power factors greater than 0.95. A resonant network is established between the primary and the secondary side which allows an operating frequency up to 1MHz. This high frequency reduces the size of the filter inductor and the capacitor and hence reduces system size and cost. The board is designed to run at constant current operation mode by using the single transistor current control architecture.The APA105-ML-004 features an active power factor correction (PFC) circuit. This PFC circuit enables the AC input power to be almost purely sinusoidal and provides the converter with a power factor of greater than 0.95 against the line voltage. The PFC circuit also ensures the input current is capacitor filtered, which eliminates any audible noise and reduces harmonic distortion. In summary, the APA105-ML-004 is a DC/DC & AC/DC (off-line) SMPS evaluation board for 3W constant current AC-DC isolated converters. It has very low no-load power consumption and features a single oscillator, synchronous full bridge totem pole power stage with high voltage gate drive for easy configuration of power or constant current output applications. The board runs at a continuous conduction mode up to 1MHz and is designed with active power factor correction (PFC) circuit to achieve a power factor of greater than 0.95 against the line voltage.
