The AS1333 EB evaluation board is a DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS. This power supply is designed to facilitate the experimentation and evaluation of the AS1333 dual feedback and synchronous rectification controller. The board offers easy-to-use test points and jumpers to enable evaluation of the AS1333 features. The board is capable of implementing several topologies and the manufacturing process ensures a better response to the evaluation needs of the user.

The AS1333 dual feedback and synchronous rectification controller is used in many applications such as desktop and notebook computer power supplies, UPS, and adapter-type chargers for consumer electronics, electric tools, and household appliances. The AS1333 features a small 8-pin DFN package and has 600V avalanche rugged power MOSFETs, spread spectrum frequency hopping, transient voltage suppression, output over-voltage and over-temperature protection and other special features suitable for these applications.

The AS1333 EB evaluation board is specifically designed to evaluate the features of the AS1333 controller. The board consists of two 2-layer PC boards, the controller board and the power stage. The controller board contains the AS1333 controller, optocoupler, resistor array for overvoltage protection, resistors for current sense, oscillator, and other supporting components. The power stage board contains the rectifiers, power MOSFETs, power resistor and electrolytic capacitors.

The AS1333 controller is based on the pulse width modulated (PWM) control principle. This provides an exact output voltage regulation. The rectangular waveform is generated by the on-chip oscillator and compared to an error signal obtained from an internal error amplifier, thus changing the duty cycle. The error amplifier obtains its error signal from the output voltage and the voltage on the power stick. As the output voltage varies from its desired setting, the duty cycle of the PWM signal is automatically adjusted so as to maintain a constant output voltage.

The AS1333 EB also features synchronous rectification and an improved control loop. The synchronous rectification speed up the recovery time of the output voltage in case of a load transient. Additionally, it reduces the power losses when the power supply is driven from a DC input source. The improved control loop provides better transient response and less output voltage deviation under light load conditions.

The AS1333 EB allows a wide input voltage range of 90 to 265VAC. This makes the evaluation board suitable for worldwide applications. It also has extra features such as spread spectrum frequency hopping, transient voltage suppression, output over-voltage and over-temperature protection and surge protection features. This makes it suitable for applications that require extra safety and improved EMI performance.
