Programmable Oscillators are essential electronic components which are used in many different applications. They are used to accurately generate various output signals with different frequencies, amplitudes, and duty cycles. The most common application is in timing circuits, where oscillators are used to generate a square wave reference clock. They are also used in data communication systems to generate bit pattern signals, and in direct digital synthesis to generate frequency reference signals.
The ASDMB-BLANK-LR is a programmable oscillator designed specifically for the buffered logic and latch reset industry. It is a monolithic integrated circuit which offers five programmable oscillator functions: on/off control, frequency setting, voltage switching, duty cycle setting, and phase setting. It can be used in a variety of applications such as in Optocouplers, Beepers, Timers and Frequency Counters.
The working principle of the ASDMB-BLANK-LR is based on an RC circuit. It consists of an R-S flip flop, a capacitor and a charge pump. The R-S flip flop is used to generate a basic oscillating signal, while the capacitor acts as an accumulator which charges and discharges at each oscillation cycle. The charge pump then turns that oscillating signal into a square wave.
The ASDMB-BLANK-LR is capable of accurately generating square waves with frequencies ranging from 0.5Hz to 8MHz. The output waveform can be programmed by adjusting the charge time, the discharge time, the frequency setting, the voltage switching, and the duty cycle. The range of output waveforms is wide enough to cover virtually any application requiring a square wave reference clock.
In addition to its primary function as an oscillator, the ASDMB-BLANK-LR can also be used as a power saving device. By setting the frequency, voltage switching and duty cycle settings, the oscillator can be made to operate continuously, but at a reduced frequency. This allows for long periods of inactivity between oscillations, which leads to reduced power consumption.
