Pin Configurable/Selectable Oscillators comprise a wide range of crystal oscillators and oscillator ICs, which are designed to provide either frequency selection or programmable frequency control. ASEMCC2-LR is a typical example of such oscillators. Developed by ASEM Semiconductor, the ASEMCC2-LR oscillator combines both frequency selection and programmable frequency control. Compared with traditional PLL based or RC oscillator based MCUs, this oscillator’s frequency can be adjusted on the fly and quickly, as well as digital tuning with its embedded microcontroller.

The ASEMCC2-LR oscillator has a built-in high accuracy Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator (TCXO) and a 16bit miniature digital signal processor (MSP). It is engineered with an internal PLL filter that provides precise digital frequency tuning of the oscillator output frequency. It also supports programmable frequency adjustment across a wide frequency range of 8MHz to 126MHz.

The ASEMCC2-LR oscillator provides two default frequency modes: Frequency Selection Mode (FSM) and Programmable Adjustment Mode (PAM). In FSM, users can choose from up to 21 fixed frequencies based on customer applications. In PAM, this oscillator supports various options, including post calibration calibration (PC), fixed frequency adjustment (FF) or linear frequency adjustment (LF). The LF mode is used to precisely adjust the frequency in steps of 95ppm or 500ppm, while the FF mode can be used to set the frequency without calibration.

The ASEMCC2-LR oscillator has a number of features that make it an attractive choice for system designers. It is designed with the latest 0.35 μm CMOS process, which provides a low supply current and low power consumption, as well as high performance oscillator.
