Working Principle

The AT42QT2160-MMU utilizes its on-chip capacitance-to-digital conversion (CDC) feature that converts changes in the mutual capacitance of the touch surfaces into digital signals. It accurately detects single or multiple touches from any stylus or finger.

The ASIC scans each surface to detect changes in capacitance using an alternating current method. The AT42QT2160-MMU detects current moving on a scanning line and across the dynamic transmit and “X” and “Y” drive lines to measure changes in capacitance. It also features frequency hopping based processing technology to reject external noise and provide reliable operation in noisy environments.

The IC is capable of detecting X-Y coordinates and features finger tracking functionality to reject false touches. The IC also has on-chip temperature sensing and supports compensation capabilities to ensure precise touch sensing performance in varying environments. The AT42QT2160-MMU is available in a small TQFP44 package and requires only one external bypass capacitor.
