| Crystals, also known as piezoelectric crystal, are solid-state electronic components that converse electrical energy into mechanical vibrations and even vice versa. The process of interchanging the electrical and mechanical energy is known as piezoelectric effect. In many applications, this conversion of energy is used for testing and measuring signals, driving small motors and also for timing circuits. ATS037SM is a one-axis piezoelectric transducer that was manufactured by Haylor Corporation. It is a crystal-based transducer that can be used in various applications within both the electrical and mechanical engineering sectors. It has a high durability, low offset and is able to withstand up to 2.5 times its rated acceleration. The ATS037SM can be used in applications where acceleration, velocity, position, impact and also vibration measurements are required. It is often used in testing and measuring circuits, both in the lab and outside in the field. It is also used in industry applications such as pump control, operations where speed is measured, robotics, vehicle engines and even in medical field equipment. The ATS037SM is a single-axis piezoelectric transducer, which is an electromechanical device that produces a voltage in response to acceleration and also vice versa. It can be used for several purposes such as for measuring acceleration, velocity and/or position. The ATS037SM consists of two main parts, the active part and the counter mass. The active part or “piezoelectric element” is a round shape crystal layer, characterized by a specific electrical output resistance in response to an applied mechanical strain or force. The counter mass, usually made of a light alloy material, is used to balance the transducer. When the transducer is stimulated by a mechanical force, the piezoelectric element transforms the strain into an electrical signal, resulting in an output voltage. This voltage is then amplified, filtered and further processed to obtain a usable measurement output. The ATS037SM is also used for measuring the impact vibration caused by sources of noise and vibration, such as motors and pumps. Overall, the ATS037SM is a highly durable transducer capable of withstanding extreme conditions, such as high temperatures and a range of environmental conditions.
