Film capacitors are electrical components that are used to store a certain amount of electrical energy in an electric field and later release it when needed. They are also commonly referred to as electrolytic capacitors, film-dielectric capacitors, or plastic capacitors. B32022B3223M189 capacitors are tape and reel products made from polycarbonate film and a self-healing metallized layer. With the help of added EVA and adjustment plates, it is able to mitigate the temperature and cope with short-term peaks or transients up to 1.7kV resulting in constant performance. Additionally, these capacitors are highly reliable and stable with very low levels of ESR and ESL.
The use of the B32022B3223M189 capacitors is mainly intended for high-grade and fast-cyclic applications, such as LED lighting, SMPS or industrial use in automation systems. It is suitable for two-layer mechanical mounting, therefore reducing space and cost. Additionally, due to the low leakage current of 0.001 CV, less heating is generated helping with energy savings.
In terms of working principles, the B32022B3223M189 capacitors are analogous to any other film capacitor. A voltage is applied across the plates, thereby allowing electric charges to flow. The voltage changes the electric field housed within the capacitor. Furthermore, the capacitance is also directly proportional to the electric field. The dielectric materials used between the plates and the size of these plates also contribute to the total capacitance of the capacitor.
Lastly, the electric current stored within the capacitor plates can be discharged when needed.
