Inrush Current Limiters (ICL)

Inrush Current Limiters (ICLs) are electronic components which limit very high inrush currents to a load caused by the sudden application of AC electric power. Installed near the load, they allow the system to function correctly under normal operating conditions, but protect against an overload in the event of a short circuit or other fault in the system.

B57153S0150M000 ICL is designed to protect low voltage AC and DC power supplies, both resistive and inductive, from overload and/or short-circuit events. It limits inrush current to the specified value while allowing maximum current for normal operations. The device features an additional internal protection limit circuit, ensuring that the current stays within the limits even when the load wows out of range.

The B57153S0150M000 ICL uses a metal oxide varistor (MOV) and a capacitor to reduce the inrush current to the specified limit, allowing up to yet another specified, safe current limit.

The metal oxide varistor works by clamping the voltage across it when the pre-set limit is exceeded. The excess energy is dissipated as heat and therefore the excess current is reduced. The capacitor works in conjunction with the MOV to control the current flow. It absorbs a portion of the initial energy from the power supply, gradually releasing it back to the supply as the SOC is established. This helps reduce di/dt of the current, thus limiting the current.

The B57153S0150M000 ICL is an ideal solution for a wide range of applications where limiting inrush currents is essential for safe operation.
