BAF-3

BAF-3 fuses are a specialized electronic fuse defined by the American National Standards Institute\'s C37.42 standard. They are air-gap, power, non-interrupting fuses designed for used in residential, commercial, and industrial applications. BAF-3 fuses are designed for use on medium-voltage systems operating up to 15 kV. They can be used in systems that carry alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) as long as the voltage and current levels do not exceed the fuse ratings. For instance, a BAF-3 fuse rated for 600V ac may be used in applications that carry 480V ac.The fuse body of a BAF-3 fuse is made from a hard-wearing insulating material that is resistant to air, moisture, and temperatures up to 185 degrees Celsius (365 degrees Fahrenheit). The installation of the fuse must be done according to the applicable standards and local codes. BAF-3 fuses are available in a wide range of sizes and voltage ratings. The voltage rating determines the current rating of the fuse, meaning the current that it can carry without blowing or opening the circuit. Overcurrent protection must be provided for BAF-3 fuses. The time taken for a fuse to open is known as its time-current curve or "TC" curve. It is represented graphically on the fuse\'s packaging and is specific to each individual size and type of fuse. As BAF-3 fuses are rated for medium voltage, current ratings begin at 200 amps and go up to 2000 amps. It is important to select the right type of fuse for any given application, as different types of fuses are designed to respond in different ways to an overcurrent. For example, a specific type of fuse, called a time-delay fuse, is designed to remain closed for a certain amount of time in response to an overcurrent in order to prevent nuisance opening of the circuit. Other types of fuses, such as the fast-blow type, are designed to open almost immediately upon an overcurrent.
