Film capacitors, also known as plastic film capacitors, are an important category of capacitors. They are composed of a dielectric film, a pair of electrodes, a metal shell, and end seals. The recognition code of the film capacitor is BFC230341225. It has the advantages of large capacitance, good frequency characteristics, high insulation resistance, small size, light weight and stability.
Application Field
Film capacitors are widely used in AC circuits with high frequency applications, such as high-frequency rectifiers, strong commutation circuits, wireless communication circuits, audio systems, TV sets, radio receivers, video players and other high-frequency rectification and AC filtering circuits. Film capacitors are also widely used in high-speed circuits such as switching power supplies, inverters, and high-speed pulse circuits to filter out noise throughout.
Working Principle
The working principle of the film capacitor is based on the same principles as any other capacitor. It works by storing energy in the form of an electric field. The electric field is generated between two conductors when an electrical potential is applied between them. Electrostatic capacitance is achieved when two conductive surfaces have a separation between them and are capable of storing electric charge, sharing a common electric flux. This electric field can be created by either applying a physical voltage across the capacitor or inducing it voltage using an external field.
The dielectric in the capacitor is usually a thin sheet of a polymer material such as Mylar, polycarbonate, polypropylene, teflon, Kapton or other materials. This material allows for the electric energy to be stored within the capacitor. As current moves through the capacitor, an electric field is established between the capacitor plates, resulting in energy being stored or "trapped" between the plates. The electric field of the capacitor will cause the plates to attract or repel each other, thus dissipating the electric charge.
In general, the higher the applied voltage, the higher the capacitance of the device. Higher voltages also result in increased electric field flux density, resulting in higher electric fields. This can lead to higher capacitance and increased electrical performance. Film capacitors also offer improved stability and reliability due to their higher insulation resistance.
