Furthermore, these capacitors typically require a higher dielectric constant, lower dissipation factor, and higher insulation resistance.

Working Principle

The working principle of film capacitors is based on their design. The electrical properties of the metalized polypropylene or polyester film can be significantly improved by adding a metal layer to its surface, which leads to its higher dielectric constant and much improved insulation resistance. The metalized film acts like a dielectric, while the metal layers serve as electrodes. The electric current is transferred through the metal layers, while the metalized polypropylene polyester film serves as an insulator and serves as a dielectric.

Film capacitors have many advantages over other types of capacitors, including higher working voltages, higher reliability, lower ESR, lower inductance, higher frequency response, and higher capacitance.
