Fuses

Fuses are composed of conductive metal cladded strip linked by a resettable single break and a resetting fuse body. The BK/ETF-1.6 is a dual-function fuse, which combines both thermal and magnetic protection. It offers two levels of protection against false tripping on thermal model, one self-resetting function for the upper thermal protection and a manual reset for the lower thermal protection.

BK/ETF-1.6 Application Field

BK/ETF-1.6 can be used in a wide range of application from general household safety to industrial machinery. It can act as a disconnect device (to switch off the power supply in case of an over-current) or as a protection device to protect the equipment from over current or short circuit faults. It also provides a temperature reset mechanism to reset the current trip level when the device is subjected to constant overloading. Through this multiple protection methods, it is suitable for high current applications to protect loads such as motors, power converters, home appliances, elevators, low voltage protection system, and voltage transformers.

BK/ETF-1.6 Working Principle

BK/ETF-1.6 fuses work by controlling the current through the device. Initially, during normal operation, the switch is closed, allowing current to pass through the fuses. In case of overload or short circuit, the electric current passes the overload level, which activates the temperature reset mechanism, breaking the connection between the fuse and the equipment, thus cutting off the power supply.

The BK/ETF-1.6 features two levels of protection on the operating temperature. The both have an over-current trip level which is determined by the rated current. The upper temperature resets after the temperature exceeds a predetermined level. The lower trip level must be manually reset once the current level is passed. Therefore, when an overload or a short circuit occurs, the BK/ETF-1.6 is automatically triggered off and can be reset afterwards.

In addition, the magnetic protection system provides a quicker protection. When the over current trips at the magnetic protection level, the current passes through a coil to produce a high magnetic flow that acts on an iron core within the BK/ETF-1.6 unit. This triggers a contact breaker, instantly disconnecting the power supply. The manual reset is only for the lower temperature reset.

By using the BK/ETF-1.6, the device is protected from over current, short circuit and over temperature faults. And since it offers both thermal and magnetic protection systems, it is suitable for applications which require a faster response time when a fault occurs.
